Former Pakistan international hockey player Adnan Zakir, will be taking over as the coach of the women’s team in the Oberliga, the third tier of hockey league in Germany.

Robert Frisinger, the deputy head of Club Zur Vahr, recently, succeeded in extending the contract of the men’s coach, Solomon Casoojee, and now welcomes another international talent to the club.

Zakir, who has played in 169 international matches, brings a wealth of experience to Bremen, having previously coached in Azerbaijan, Egypt, and England.

Frisinger emphasizes that the club prioritizes attitude, skills, and athletic development over language proficiency, allowing it to attract top international talent like Zakir. “Hockey is one of the fastest ball sports in the world, requiring a high degree of dynamism, technique, and coordination,” said Robert Frisinger, summarizing his favorite sport.

“And for the necessary finesse, we have now brought on board an absolute expert with Adnan Zakir.” he remarked on the appointment of the former Pakistani hockey player who will replace Dennis Ströder, who returned to his home in North Rhine-Westphalia earlier this year. Zakir’s responsibilities will include coaching the first and second women’s teams and the U16 and U12 girls’ teams. Jan Kulla, the head of the department, sees Zakir’s appointment as a significant achievement for the club, praising his expertise and experience.

Zakir is eager to dive into his new role, expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming season and the opportunity to work with the club’s teams. He aims to contribute to the club’s success both on the field and in the hall.

Frisinger also hopes the current Olympic Games will inspire a new generation to take up hockey, further bolstering the club’s efforts in competitive and recreational sports.
